Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) was established 230 years ago. The first water department has been existing since the second half of the last century. For today Department of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering (VKKT) has 22 highly qualified academic staff, and 6 Ph.D. students. Its activities can be grouped in three fields: education (gradual and post gradual), research and consulting, including up-to-date international technology transfer and cooperation with universities, research institutes abroad. Its profile covers among others activities related to urban water management and hydrology. Within this field different aspects of design and upgrading of water infrastructures, operation and control of various facilities, management and river basin planning are considered. The department has a number of advanced tools of computer sciences and softwares such as various kinds of models (water supply systems, application and development of GIS and decision support systems).
